Greenlight Capital Inc is a New York long/short value manager founded in 1996 by David Einhorn. Its approach is intensive bottom-up research on both sides of the book, and it became widely known for public short theses — most famously on Allied Capital and on Lehman Brothers ahead of the 2008 crisis — as well as for concentrated long positions in businesses it judges to be trading below intrinsic value.
The book below is reconstructed from the firm's own Form 13F-HR filings with the SEC, read straight from the structured XML that EDGAR renders its filing pages from. Read it with the form's limits in mind: a 13F reports only long positions in US-listed equities and certain convertibles and options, as of the last day of the quarter, filed up to 45 days later. Short positions, cash, credit, non-US listings, and anything traded between quarter-ends are invisible here. Position changes are therefore measured in share count, not dollars — a position can gain value while the manager was selling it. One further note specific to this filer: Greenlight's most recent Form 13F-HR covers the 2023-12-31 quarter, filed 2024-02-14; it has filed no holdings report since. Two related entities, DME Advisors, LP and Greenlight Masters, LLC, currently file notice-only reports (13F-NT). This page therefore ends at 2023-Q4 and is a historical record rather than a current book.
Reported long-equity book value at each quarter-end. Effective N = 1/HHI — the number of equal-weight positions this book behaves like, which is a stricter read on diversification than a raw count.
Stacked by the largest positions of the selected quarter; everything else is pooled into “Other”. Hover a band for the position and its weight.
One row per security, one column per quarter. Shade = weight in the book. Glyph = what the manager actually did, measured in share count: ★ new, ▲ added, ▼ trimmed, ✕ exited, blank = held flat. A multi-year holding reads as a long band; a one-quarter trade reads as an isolated cell.
What changed between two consecutive filings — the comparison this page exists to replace. Adds and trims are ranked by change in share count, so a price move never masquerades as a trade.

Built directly from Greenlight Capital Inc's Form 13F-HR filings
(EDGAR filing index, CIK 0001079114) by
industry-reports/13f/fetch_13f.py. The script reads each filing's
infotable.xml — the structured source EDGAR renders its own filing pages from — so no
HTML is scraped and no spreadsheet cleanup is involved.
Four corrections applied.
(1) The SEC's 2022 amendments switched <value> from thousands of dollars to whole
dollars at the 2022-12-31 period; every earlier filing is rescaled so the series is continuous, which is
why an unadjusted scrape appears to show a 1000× jump in this book.
(2) The holdings filename varies by era (infotable.xml, form13fInfoTable.xml),
so it is discovered from the filing's index.json rather than assumed.
(3) Where a 13F-HR/A amendment restates a period, the latest filing for that period wins.
(4) Filings before 2013-06-30 are fixed-width plain text rather than XML and are not included.
What a 13F does not show. Long US-listed equity positions only, as of quarter-end, filed up to 45 days later. Short positions, cash, credit, non-US listings, and anything opened and closed inside a quarter never appear. Informational only — not investment advice.
